Micro Inverter

Repair of panel-mounted micro inverters (corrosion/burn damage).

A micro inverter is a compact device mounted directly on the back of each photovoltaic panel, performing DC-to-AC conversion at the individual panel level. This architecture enables per-panel monitoring, reduces the impact of partial shading, and improves safety through lower DC voltages. Internally it consists of a high-efficiency booster circuit, an inverter bridge based on MOSFETs or GaN devices, an output filter, wireless or power-line communication circuitry, and a sealed enclosure with IP67 or higher protection rating. Common failures are primarily caused by moisture ingress (water damage), corrosion of connections, burnt power components due to overheating or lightning strikes, and degraded electrolytic capacitors. Expert repair requires careful opening of the enclosure without damaging the seal, thorough cleaning of corrosion with appropriate agents, replacement of burnt components with equivalent or superior parts, insulation and leakage current testing, and restoration of the seal using silicone compounds or original gaskets. After repair, full load performance testing and verification of communication with the central monitoring system are mandatory.
