Solar Inverter

Repair of DC-to-AC conversion circuits (grid-tied/off-grid).

A solar inverter converts the direct current generated by photovoltaic panels into alternating current usable by the grid or local loads. Inverters are categorized as grid-tied or off-grid, and may also feature hybrid capabilities. Internally they consist of a DC input stage with overvoltage and reverse polarity protection, a booster or DC-DC converter stage, an inverter bridge using IGBT or MOSFET switches, an LC or LCL output filter, a microcontroller- or DSP-based control circuit, and monitoring and protection systems. Common failures include burnt power transistors due to overcurrent or thermal cycling, degraded electrolytic capacitors on the DC link, faults in galvanic isolation circuits, current and voltage sensor errors, and software issues in control algorithms. Expert repair involves precise voltage and current measurements at critical points using differential probes, insulation testing, replacement of power modules and capacitors with equivalent high-quality components, firmware updates, and full load testing to verify efficiency and compliance with grid standards such as VDE-AR-N 4105 or IEEE 1547.
